Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Beijing on Saturday to press the Chinese leadership on contentious issues like cyberattacks and North Korea, while also seeking to make headway on the even more intractable problem of climate change. The United States and China are the world’s two largest greenhouse gas polluters, making it difficult for either country to effectively combat the emissions that contribute to global warming without some level of cooperation from the other. But disagreements over everything from trade practices to human rights have led to a tense relationship between the two countries in recent years, adding friction to efforts to build trust and find common ground on environmental issues.
